Rotor is a Brussels-based cooperative design practice investigating how our material environment is organised and developing critical positions through research and design. Working across architecture and interior design, research, exhibitions, publications, economic models and policy proposals, their practice addresses questions of sustainability, circularity and the material economy through a strongly empirical approach. Reuse is central to much of their work, from assessing existing buildings and developing reuse strategies to integrating reclaimed construction elements into new projects. In 2016, they launched Rotor DC, a spin-off dedicated to the recovery and sale of salvaged building components.
On Thursday, 17 September at 19:00, Rotor joins Beta for the lecture Entangled Matter. Starting from the idea that reuse is not an end in itself, but a productive way of critically questioning how the construction industry is organised, the lecture presents findings from Rotor’s ongoing research and considers how reuse can open up broader questions around materials, resources and contemporary building practices.
