About Karamuk Kuo Architects
KARAMUK KUO, based in Zurich Switzerland, was established in 2010 by Jeannette Kuo and Ünal Karamuk. Known for their integrated design approach for site-specific responses, the office is committed to holistic and sustainable practices. From multi-unit housing projects to cultural infrastructures like the Augusta Raurica Archaeological Center, the work of the office spans across scales and typologies, operating at the intersection of spatial concepts and constructive technologies to approach architecture from its most fundamental sources. Built works include the International Sports Sciences Institute in Lausanne, the Weiden Secondary School, and House on a Slope. Publications include the two-volume research on workspace typologies: A-Typical Plan (Park Books, 2013) and Space of Production (Park Books, 2015), as well as an El Croquis no.196 monograph. Works of the office are regularly featured in journals such as Casabella, werk bauen + wohnen, Archithese, and Domus. In addition, both partners are committed to intellectual pursuits in design research and have been teaching since 2006 at various universities, including Harvard GSD, MIT, ETH Zurich and ETH Lausanne. Since 2022, Jeannette is Professor of Architecture and Construction at TU Munich where she leads the lab on sustainable design and integrated construction.
