Project description in English

The penthouse is situated on the last two floors of an apartment building situated in a recently finished residential complex: the first floor accommodates an open-space with kitchen, dining and living room, a home office and annexes, while the second floor is destined for the two bedrooms. The project was developed from concept to implementation and it was initiated during the construction stages of the building, which provided more freedom for customization – from local repartitioning, to the replacement of the standard staircase with one designed by the architect as an integral part of the composition, drawing of all the fixed furniture pieces and the selection of commercially available ones, including decorations and light fixtures. The proposed approach focuses on simplicity and consistency and on the dialogue between the common and the more private areas of a home: there is always a duality between sobriety and playfulness, functionality and spectacular, slow-pace and dynamism, expressed by the juggle of heights between different rooms, the opposition between the warmth of the wood and the gravity of the colour black, the aerial texture of curtains and the massiveness of the wall panelling, the continuity of colours interrupted by strong accents. Thus, the classic line of the kitchen counterbalances the two-storey living room, profiled on a glass curtain wall, whose verticality is highlighted by the high-rise bookcase and the massive wood staircase. The furniture pieces combine the aesthetic valence with functionality, hiding generous storage spaces - the basis of the staircase, for example, serves also as a bench with wide drawers.
