Text presentation of the author/office in English

We are a group of architects united by the passion for our work and the desire to bring new qualities to the surrounding built space, Format 4 comes as a proposal to mediate the relationship between human and architecture. Our approach relies on a permanent analysis of our customers needs in parallel with the requirements of the locations studied. Usual or familiar pattems and forms are always discussed and compared with contemporary development directions to create new spatial experiences and to bring a special touch to each individual project.

Project title in English

A sloping plot, forgotten, with a sharp shape, from an intersection located in a dynamic and un-decidedly built area, but which has an intimate relationship with the city of Zalău, ends up hosting a unique building of collective housing with commercial ground floor. The architectural creation was born from the desire to respect the neighborhoods, to take advantage of the almost triangular shape of the plot and to create a building that dialogues and delights through its presence and spirit. The plan follows the shape of the plot, which is sharp towards the city, offering panoramic perspectives for two of the three sides of the building, with successive withdrawals from one level to another. In this way the neighborhoods are respected, but at the same time terraces are generated that offer intimacy and communication of the interior with the exterior: the city, the orchards and the peaks of the Meseș that surrounds it. Each part of the building is treated differently, direction dictated more by the immediate neighborhood and urban situation. In this way, the main and side facade, oriented towards the two streets, meet on the corner in a volume that dominates the intersection, points out the verticality of the volume and gives it slenderness. Taking courage, the volume disintegrates towards the other ends, so that from the street level you notice the alignment and connection to the smaller buildings in the vicinity, thus generating a modest and linear route of the street, but marked at the intersection. Towards the city, the building expands its volume, completing the triangle with generous terraces that dialogue with the outside through their shape. The rhythm of the façade, determined by well-masked retreats, vertical accents, joints and the communication between the brick and the metal positioned on the withdrawn registers, make the well-integrated volume to be perceived on a much smaller scale, add-ing value to the area and thus generating a special urban space. With joy and emotion, we always approach this new place created in the city, a place that promises more, that offers hope, optimism and a better life. With great pleasure, Zhero Residence.
