Project description in English

Any phenomenon originates and continues in a history. In this sense, the Automobile Creation Center involves functional urban re-vitalization of an industrial sub-area in Arad, by appealing to the memothenic valences of architecture. The goal is to take over the history of the first car factory in Romania, "Marta" and to offer the opportunity to create in the present of the city through the conversion and functional expansion. Relating them to the history of the place and the opinion of the local community, the project sums up the following functional categories: 1. Museum spaces; 2. Spaces for technical studies. The goal is to offer auxiliary spaces to engineering students and enthusiasts; 3. Spaces for the general public: exhibition spaces, public catering and facilities. The generative principle of the complex is one that follows the two major axes present on the site. The first axis is the main one, it is the axis that has as its perspective end: the water tower. The second axis connects the landscaped spaces within the site with those behind the engineering faculty, connecting the two green spaces. At the intersection of the two axes is the complex's premises, which allows distribution to all spatial categories. The premises is raised on the upper level of the existing half-ground of the historical buildings, to facilitate spatial communication on the ground floor. Thus, the general intention of the spaces, in addition to the particularities of the assumed destinations, is to open but also to direct.
