European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture Mies van der Rohe

The EU Prize for Contemporary Architecture - The Mies van der Rohe Prize is a biannual architecture prize awarded by the European Commission and the Mies van der Rohe Foundation in Barcelona. For the 18th edition, 362 works from 38 countries were nominated, of which, after an intense journey across Europe and many hours of discussions, the jury members selected 40 works to be presented in the exhibition.

These include the following finalists and winners: a modular, demountable study pavilion that questions conventions and perspectives on sustainability in Braunschweig; an urban library in Barcelona that transforms a neighborhood, opening as a new public space, both exterior and interior; a vertical school on the outskirts of Madrid, distinguished by an idiosyncratic identity, spatial richness and a restorative ecological mission; a mystical garden on the outskirts of Lund, designed to protect a small natural area to be surrounded by a new residential neighborhood; an art gallery that transforms an abandoned slaughterhouse in Ostrava, opening it up to the community; a landscape intervention in a monastery in Santa Lucia di Tallano, Corsica, bringing people together through culture; and a subtle intervention in the Portuguese village of Piódão. Among the selected projects is " Nursery. 1306 plants for Timisoara", a local project also recognized at European level.

EUmies Awards 2024 Exhibition

The exhibition is organized by the Mies van der Rohe Foundation and the European Commission, through the Creative Europe program. The exhibition is touring Timisoara with the support of Beta - Timisoara Architecture Biennial, a project of the Romanian Order of Architects - Timis Territorial Branch, the activity being financed and carried out in partnership with the Municipality of Timisoara, through the Centre for Projects.

The exhibition program will include representatives of the Mies van der Rohe Foundation and the European Commission, as well as representatives of the local administration, together with representatives of the international and local architectural scene.

We invite you to slowly explore this "forest" of projects and discover their complexity through photographs, drawings, models, texts and videos. The exhibition program includes the opening on 5 June 2025, followed by a conference that will address themes related to quality contemporary architecture.
