Project description in English

The Pelican was built in 1966 at the shipyard in Giurgiu, being initially used for transport in the Danube Delta and in the 80s it crossed the country to be used for special races on the Bega, following that after the revolution of 89 it became less and less used until the 2010s when it became just a simple terrace. Its story seemed to be at the end when it caught fire in the fall of 2012, being bought at the price of a kilo of scrap metal in 2013 by the people from D.arc with the intention of restoring it and putting Bega back near Barja Darc, the place already known to the people of Timisoara. The Pelican has a relatively short history of trips on the Bega, but it was one that marked several generations of Timișoara residents, representing one of the boats intended for transporting people and for leisure trips. Navigability on the Bega helps to understand the evolution of the city and the territory. The Bega flows quietly in Timișoara from east to west and offers us another perspective on the evolution of the city and the region with the help of the Pelican boat, a symbol of the city restored by our team, after many years of efforts. The passenger ship, with a capacity of 70 people, was the main actor of the ECLUZE ON BEGA project and sailed more than 1000 kilometers on the Bega in the year of the Cultural Capital. The Pelican continues its exploration this year by reopening the water frontier, reconnecting communities and rediscovering places.
