Project description in English

The "House of Europe" project is an ambitious initiative to create an administrative and information center of the European Union, strategically located in the Stefan cel Mare Public Garden in Chisinau. Inspired by the Europe Direct model and affiliated to the European Union Delegation, the project aims to become a cultural and educational hub, responding to the information needs of citizens and supporting European integration activities through a diversified program of events, exhibitions, workshops and courses. The context of the site is crucial, as the project rehabilitates the former Guguță café, which is under threat of total demolition. By integrating it into the ensemble of the Casa Europa building, the project contributes to the conservation and enhancement of the modernist-socialist heritage, avoiding the demolition of elements that could alter the identity of the area. Thus, the intervention will be achieved through a delicate approach, preserving the character of the Public Garden and creating new links with the Emil Loteanu Cinema and the Gastronomic Theater. The general concept of the project is based on the extension of the park by creating a green sloping plane, which will provide new areas for promenade and relaxation, without altering the image of the Public Garden. The Europe House will have a flexible layout, with areas dedicated to conferences, education-media, workshops, Europe Direct team offices and catering facilities. The intervention has been designed to be sensitive and to maintain the character of the park intact, yet to attract the interest of passers-by and announce its presence, the volume incorporates two corten canopies, whose distinctive silhouettes are visible from both Stefan cel Mare Boulevard and the park. The "House of Europe" is not just an information center, it is a symbol of Moldova's commitment to European values and will become a landmark for cultural and educational exchange, promoting a sustainable and prosperous future for all its citizens.
