About Malkit Shoshan

Malkit Shoshan is a designer, researcher, educator, and writer, as well as the founder of FAST: Foundation for Achieving Seamless Territory, an architectural research agency that focuses on the political dimensions of built environments. Through research, advocacy, design, and public art, FAST explores the intricate relationships between architecture, urban planning, and human rights, particularly the effects of systemic and spatial violence on people's lived environments and lives. Shoshan is the author and illustrator of several books, including the award-winning “Atlas of Conflict: Israel-Palestine” (2010) and co-author of “Village. One Land, Two Systems” and “Platform Paradise” (2014). Her most recent book, “BLUE: The Architecture of UN Peacekeeping Missions” (2023), further examines the intersections of architecture, violence, and global governance. Through her work, she sheds light on marginalized voices. With a unique blend of theory and praxis, Shoshan advocates for community engagement, participatory design processes, and social and environmental justice. In 2021, she was awarded The Silver Lion at the Venice Architecture Biennale for the collaborative project "Border Ecologies and the Gaza Strip." Currently, she serves as the 2024 Senior Loeb Fellow at the Harvard Graduate School of Design and as a 2024 Rockefeller Bellagio resident.
