Since launching Factual.ro in 2014, Romania’s first fact-checking platform, Funky Citizens has emerged as a leading advocate against disinformation. The organization is now an integral part of the global fact-checking community, actively participating in networks like the International Fact-Checking Network and the European Fact-Checking Network. Recognizing the profound impact of disinformation on society, Funky Citizens has expanded its efforts beyond fact-checking, developing projects that educate young people and activists on detecting false narratives and understanding the mechanisms of disinformation. Their work also includes research on disinformation trends and investigations into modern threats like bots, identity theft, and deep-fakes.
